Upcoming guest mix from Subb-an + Fundraising Show!

Pretty damn stoked for this: tonight will feature a guest mix from Subb-an, in advance of him playing in Toronto on Friday. Long-standing resident of the Below night in Birmingham, Ashique Subhan has been making a prominent rise in the dance music community, being named the breakthrough DJ of 2011 by DJ Mag, and releasing a slew of productions on such labels as Crosstown Rebels, BPitch Control, Leftroom, Hot Creations, 2020 Vision, and others. He’s also released music on his label ONE Records, co-founded with Adam Shelton, also of Below. In 2012 he was named DJ Mag’s best British DJ, and he also placed at #78 in Resident Advisor’s top 100 world DJ poll.

We should hopefully soon have a brief interview I did with him up on the site. He also graciously provided us with a mix, recorded at the Day Zero event in Mexico on Dec 21, 2012, which is proper and propulsive.

As part of the Rebel Rave tour, which celebrates 10 years of Crosstown Rebels, Subb-an will be DJing alongside label founder Damian Lazarus, along with a live performance from Infinity Ink (signed to Crosstown Rebels and Hot Creations) – with local support from mainstay Jeff Button – at Moskito this Friday March 8. Information here.

Also, it is fundraising week here at CFMU, and I shall be manning the phones if you want to submit a pledge for the station. We’re well on our way to our goal of $21k, but every dollar helps! Please don’t hesitate to call in at 905-528-9888, or here’s a handy PayPal link. Worth noting that for a minimum $30 donation, you will receive a Friends of CFMU card, good for discounts and special offers at various local businesses.
